The phase-out of HFC refrigerants has unquestionably begun. The cost of high-GWP refrigerants is steadily rising, while supply is dwindling.

The Importance of Refrigerant Gases in Chillers

In the medical field, chilling systems are also essential. Chillers are used in magnetic resonance imaging to remove the heat generated by the equipment. A chiller positioned outside of the building provides air conditioning in most retail malls and workplaces. Finally, chillers can be found at ice skating rinks and curling rinks.

Chillers are essential in both industrial and commercial operations. Because the uses are so diverse, multiple types of chillers are required. This has an impact on various design decisions, such as the size, compressor, and refrigerant. 

In terms of the latter, R-410A and R-407C are the most commonly used refrigerants in low-medium capacity chillers, whilst R-134a and R-123 are the most commonly used refrigerants in bigger applications. 

The phase-out of high-GWP refrigerants and the rapid rise in HFC pricing, on the other hand, are pressuring manufacturers to seek new alternatives. The goal of this phase-down is the same in all countries, but the rules are varied. Several refrigerant gas suppliers in Dubai are aiming to provide refrigerants with eco-friendly applications.

The Importance of Refrigerant Gases in Oil & Gas Industry

The typical refrigeration sector, which includes supermarkets, chillers, and industrial applications, has low requirements. However, in the petrochemical and oil and gas industries, things are different. 

Gas cooling procedures, as well as the refrigerating machinery and units that enable them, are critical components of gas sector production. The following are the characteristics of refrigeration equipment used in the gas industry: 

  • Large unit capacity, a wide range of compressors (gas-turbine or gas reciprocating ones), gas drives, prior use of air-cooling units as refrigerant condensers
  • Use of inexpensive refrigerants (basic products and by-products in this industry)
  • High reliability, sufficiently long operational life, and maximum automation

The New Normal: Strict Environmental Laws

Environmental protection and human safety requirements are becoming more stringent around the world. Drain valves are now required on compressors and other refrigeration equipment. The refrigeration equipment must be able to be isolated. Isolation reduces the likelihood of refrigerant leaks and other hazards.

A fixed handwheel is required if an organization uses isolation valves on a regular basis. If there isn’t a handwheel, the valve must be operated using some other manual means. Isolation valves should be installed on ammonia main branches. These valves can be used to isolate areas of the system by technicians. It’s sometimes necessary to separate a section from the rest of the project.
